As Christians, we are called to serve, to go out and spread the good news. But if you’re anything like me, you may feel a little stuck in place.
You might feel just like me- when you’re at church or hanging out with friends and they’re flying off to build churches in the Dominican Republic or taking a trip to Haiti to minister to orphaned children and you are staying at home, not accomplishing anything. Maybe it’s your finances that won’t permit you to go or maybe it’s your various obligations, but whatever it is, you feel held in place, feeling like you can’t make a difference out in the world.
But here’s a little secret- you don’t have to go anywhere to make a spiritual impact on others. There are so many missed opportunities all around us. Have you ever spoken to your next door neighbor about the way God has changed your life? Or have you ever taken the time to tell your favorite cashier at the grocery store- God Bless You?
Again, if you’re like me, maybe it’s easier for you to reach out to strangers because maybe you feel like they won’t judge you or that you can travel back home if they ostracize you for your faith. The human fear of rejection is so strong and powerful, but the truth is that there is so much work to be done right where you’re at- RIGHT NOW! And your faith has to be stronger than your fear! Take pride in being a Christian- it’s a glorious thing!
Sit down, and write a list of all the people you can impact right now, right where you’re at. You will be surprised at how many lives you can touch. And maybe someday, when time or resources allow, you can be the one traveling to Jordan or Africa or wherever God’s Spirit is calling you.
God’s work is everywhere.
MORE organizes and hosts missions trips to some of our operating locations. We are also recruiting volunteers in the US to help our ministry grow locally. To know more about these opportunities, write to firstname.lastname@example.org”.
